Kevin Mallon

Kevin Mallon was brought up in Belfast. Northern Ireland. He studied at Chetham’s School of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and at Dartington College of Arts, tudying composition with Peter Maxwell Davies, conducting with John Eliot Gardiner, singing, and specializing in baroque violin. He became concert-master with Le Concert Spirituel and Les Arts Florissants in Paris and led and directed The Irish Baroque Orchestra before moving to Canada to take up posts with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and the University of

Toronto, (positions he left to pursue his conducting career). In 1999, Mallon founded the Aradia Ensemble, with whom he has toured widely and has made over 50 recordings for Naxos. With Toronto’s Opera in Concert he has conducted ten baroque operas and has also conducted many operettas with the Toronto Operetta Theatre. In Ireland, Mallon was appointed Artistic Director of Opera 2005, formed to celebrate Cork’s tenure as European Capital of Culture. With this company he conducted many operas and was three times nominated for the Irish Times Theatre Award. In 2009 Kevin undertook a contact with the Odessa Opera, Ukraine, to conduct in Odessa, then on tour to Holland, Belgium and Spain. For four years, Mallon was conductor at the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy.

Kevin was appointed Music Director of Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra in Ottawa (2010), Interim Artistic Director of Opera Lyra, Ottawa (2014) and Music Director of Orchestra Toronto (2013- 2018). Kevin fulfills a wide range of guest conducting engagements, is an Irish fiddler and is also a composer - most recently writing music for the TV series Camelot.
